Caucasian Chelaberd Rug
The term Chelaberd rug refers to a type of Antique handmade rug made in the Caucasus region for the Chief of the tribe. These rugs are known for their beautiful designs with two medallions and incredibly bold stylized floral motifs. The Caucasus region, located between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, had a rich tradition of rug weaving until he Russian communism came into power when many of those tribes ceased to exist. There was an attempt to reproduce those designs in factories but the fact that the wool wasn't hand spun, the colours were not made of natural dyes, only made rugs that aged really badly, unlike the originals, which are only a few in the world from the time the tribes used to make them.
